Gut-Loving Stewed Apples

Serves: 4

These gut-loving stewed apples are an excellent source of fibre, which is essential for digestive health and feeding the beneficial bacteria in your gut. The apples provide soluble fibre, which helps regulate bowel movements and supports gut motility. The addition of cinnamon and ginger not only adds delicious warmth and flavour but also provides anti-inflammatory benefits. Cinnamon has been shown to help balance blood sugar levels, while ginger aids digestion and can soothe nausea. With a drizzle of Manuka honey, this recipe becomes even more gut-friendly, offering antimicrobial properties to support your immune system. Add it to your oats, yogurt, or enjoy it as a wholesome snack!

Ingredients:

2 large chopped apples (leave the skin on)

2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon ground ginger

2 tablespoons water

Manuka honey (optional)

Method:

  1. Add apples, water, cinnamon and ginger to a small covered saucepan.

  2. Cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes or until the apples soften. Stir regularly to avoid sticking or burning.

  3. Remove from heat and drizzle with Manuka honey (for an extra immunity boost). Store sealed in the fridge and reheat before serving.

Enjoy!
